MU Places Six Fraternities on Probation By Sharif Durhams of the Journal Sentinel

I received three emails within a half hour when the news came out. I added the information describing the type of students in each fraternity just to see how far the mighty had fallen. In our day SigEps and the two engineering fraternities were the mighty as I remember.

Marquette University placed six fraternities on probation last week for violations related to alcohol, university officials said Monday.


Delta Chi(Social), Omega Delta(Social-est 2007 at MU), Sigma Chi(Social), Sigma Phi Delta(Engineers), Sigma Phi Epsilon(Social), and Triangle(Engineers) fraternities learned Thursday they were placed on probation through the fall semester, university spokeswoman Kate Venne said.

The university declined to release details about the alleged violations. In a statement Monday, Marquette officials note that the fraternities haven’t been suspended and have a right to appeal. The probation lasts through the fall semester.

“Marquette University takes any allegation of misconduct seriously and expects our students to uphold Marquette’s values by maintaining a high standard of conduct,” the statement says.

Marquette initially declined to name the fraternities that were placed on probation, citing the privacy rights of the organizations. The university released the names after a Journal Sentinel reporter noted that the university has named campus organizations previously that had been placed on probation.
